As in many European countries, in Italy we have people from other continents living, studying and working here.
Waiting for obtaining the citizenship, they are given an Italian identity card as residents in our country, while remaining alien subjects.
Therefore their identity is uncertain; their bargaining power is nonexistent: they are invisible as they have not the right to vote and immigrants’ children, born in Italy, become Italian only when they reach legal adulthood, which in Italy is 18.
I choose to represent their identity in transition and their political invisibility framing their portraits I have taken on the cover of the identity cards of these future new citizens coming from Africa, Asia and Latin America.
